Growing School District Opens New Elementary School

QUEEN CREEK, AZ– On Wednesday, July 10, 2019, a grand opening celebration was held for Silver Valley Elementary, the newest elementary school in the Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD). The celebration included tours, a ribbon-cutting, and open house for the public. Silver Valley Elementary (SVE) is located in Mesa’s Cadence at Gateway community near Ellsworth and Ray.

Local dignitaries including a representative from Governor Ducey’s office, QCUSD Governing Board members, district administration, community leaders, and teachers attended the ribbon cutting. Attendees heard from QCUSD Superintendent Dr. Perry Berry, QCUSD Board President Ken Brague, and SVE Principal Allison Carmichael. There were also speakers from DLR Group (architecture, engineering, interior design) and the Chasse Building Team (construction) and representing the Arizona Governor’s Office was Mr. Barry Wong (Director of the Governor’s Office of Equal Opportunity).

“We are proud to provide another high-quality school for the students and families living in the northern part of our district,” said Superintendent Berry. “Thank you to the voters and to the School Facilities Board for making Silver Valley Elementary possible.”

Silver Valley Elementary was constructed with voter-approved bond funds and state funds. The school has a master-planned campus of over 15 acres providing ample space to grow with the community. All SVE students will have access to technology and collaborative learning spaces as well as leadership and STEAM programs that align with the district’s comprehensive and rigorous curriculum.

“I value this community tremendously as they have given me so much support during my time at Gateway Polytechnic Academy (another QCUSD elementary school in the northern part of the district),” said Principal Carmichael. “I am lucky to serve such incredible families and students.”

Silver Valley Elementary is for preschool through sixth-grade students. The school will feature before and after-school enrichment opportunities. Doors officially opened to students on Wednesday, July 24.
