Gilbert Man Arrested for Stealing From Home Depot
A Gilbert man was taken into custody after it was discovered he had been stealing merchandise from a major home improvement store.
Chandler Police used analytic reporting to arrest 57-year-old Antoine Elkik for stealing nearly $86,000 worth of tools and other items from Home Depot stores across Maricopa County.
According to police, Elkik would legitimately pay for products and take them to his car. He would then immediately head back to the store with his receipt, pick up the same products and leave the store, using his receipt as proof of purchase.
If store staff asked about his purchases, he would show the receipt. Later, he would head back to the store to return the stolen products and get a refund.
Police say he returned all 402 products purchased since 2012, receiving refunds for every single item. The company was able to identify Antoine due to his high amount of refunds, and he was taken into custody on March 27. He has been charged with 30 counts of retail theft.
