Gala Raises Half a Million Dollars

Great Hearts Arizona raised $559,381 in gross proceeds for its teachers during the annual Gala that took place on Saturday, September 28, at Chateau Luxe. This was the fourth year for the signature event, which is the largest network-wide fundraiser of the year for Great Hearts. This year’s theme was A Wrinkle in Time, one of the many classical novels from the Great Hearts curriculum. Monies raised at the gala will support faculty through the Teacher Excellence Fund, a fund dedicated to rewarding Great Hearts’ best teachers based on the academic and cultural impact they have on their students and the overall school community.

“Our teachers are the foundation of all our Great Hearts schools,” said Erik Twist, president of Great Hearts Arizona. “We are so excited that we are able to use this money to thank them for the passion and dedication they show us every single day.”

As a nonprofit public charter school network in Arizona, Great Hearts receives $2,500 less per student annually in public funding compared to district schools. This means less money for teachers and programs. This year’s theme, A Wrinkle in Time, included a hosted cocktail hour, incredible dishes from Chateau Luxe, performances from students and teachers across Great Hearts’ network of schools, silent and live auctions, and more.

Founded in 2003, Great Hearts grew from a single school to become the highest performing nonprofit public charter school network in Arizona. The mission of Great Hearts is to develop great scholars and form great hearts; young men and women with character to serve a purpose greater than themselves.
