Free Bathroom Remodels for Disabled Servicemembers

(Phoenix, Ariz. – Oct. 26, 2020) Aqua Therapy Tubs, located in North Phoenix, is helping disabled U.S. veterans get bathroom remodels including zero-step showers, walk-in tubs and safety grab bars this Veterans Day. Thanks to a lesser-known VeteransAffairs (VA) program, the accessibility modifications come at no out-of-pocket costs to the servicemembers.

“Most veterans don’t realize the VA has a Home Improvements and Structural Alterations – or HISA – grant program, which pays up to $6,800 to make a disabled veteran’s home more accessible,” said Derek Rogers, Aqua Therapy Tubs owner. “Our goal is to get the word out about the grant program this fall and help Arizonans who could benefit from a bathroom remodel to live a safer and more independent life.”

The HISA grant provides medically necessary improvements and structural alterations to servicemembers’ primary residence including the use of essential lavatory and sanitary facilities like roll in showers and the installation of non-slip surfaces and safety grab bars

“My grandfather was a WWII Veteran and was on the beach at Normandy on D-Day,” said Rogers. “I used to help him bathe when he wasn’t physically able to do it for himself. He had a dangerous bathtub to step over and a shower chair to sit in. At that time, we didn’t know water therapy tubs were available, so we made do with what we had. Having a specially designed tub or shower would have given my beloved grandfather the independence and dignity he deserved to be able to take care of himself in his later years.”

Aqua Therapy Tubs specializes in accessibility and safety bathroom remodeling projectsFrom installing grab bars, walk in tubs and showers to full bathroom renovations for wheelchair accessibilitythe company provides solutions to modify any existing bathroom to accommodate someone with disabilities or special needs.

Rogers and his company also give back to veterans throughout the year. In 2020, he set a goal of giving a bathroom modification to a deserving servicemember each month. He donates and installs ADA mounted grab bars to help ensure stability and more independence for the user.

Every time I finish a bathroom modification for someone, I am moved by how happy they are that they can actually take care of themselves in a safe way,” added Rogers. There are a lot of people who dont want to admit they need accommodations like grab bars but, once they are installed, they make all the difference in the world. That sense of satisfaction is why I do what I do.
