Enjoy a Morning of Nature at Griffith’s Spring

Looking for an exciting, educational weekend outing? Join the Arizona Native Plant Society for a field trip to beautiful Griffith’s Spring.

The beautiful natural wetland habitat is situated just a few miles south of the Flagstaff airport, and on Saturday, July 22, you can see for yourself why it’s an oasis for both people and animals.

Mike’s walk will begin at 8:00 a.m. and focus on “Herbivores on the Landscape,” and how native plants are constantly threatened by animals that exploit them for food. Many people don’t know that plants have developed a diverse arsenal of defense mechanisms to protect themselves from herbivores. Participants will have a unique opportunity to discover how these two groups manage to survive and interact with one another.

The walk will be nearly 2 miles on mostly level terrain. Participants are encouraged to bring a handlens for up-close viewing of insect herbivores and other creatures. Attendees should meet in the OneAZ Credit Union Parking Lot (321 S. Beaver Street Flagstaff, AZ 86001). The walk should be over by noon.

Arizona Native Plant Society is a statewide nonprofit organization devoted to education and conservation of native plants throughout the state.
