Driver Dies in Crash After Avoiding Police

Tucson Police Department officials have released new information in a car crash that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 24.

According to a TPD press release, a driver refused to pull over for police officers and sped away from Golf Links Road and Craycroft Road at approximately 1:50 a.m. He was behind the wheel of a silver 2005 Cadillac CTS.

In ten minutes time, police responded to a rollover crash involving the same vehicle near Aviation Parkway and Golf Links Road. First responders for Rural Metro Fire transported the driver to the hospital for immediate medical attention, but he succumbed to his injuries the next day.

The official investigation determined that the vehicle was speeding westbound on Golf Links when 27-year-old driver Gilbert Graeda veered onto Aviation Parkway and lost control of the car. Excessive speed played a significant role in the crash, according to the release.
