Department of Child Safety Opens New Center on South Side

A newly-opened center for Department of Childhood Safety families in Tucson’s south side is expected to serve over 1,000 children per year.

The new visit center officially opened it’s doors on Saturday, January 28. The South Family Visit Center is located at 821 E. 47th Street, and is expected to help host more court-mandated custody visits.

In Pima County alone, there are nearly 4,000 children residing in shelters, foster homes and relative placements. With parent-and-child reunions often the end goal, this new shelter will serve as an additional facility that will provide local children and parents with the chance to have a quality, safe visitation experience.

The Department of Child Safety also has a location in midtown (153 South Plumer Avenue). The newest facility will host 400 additional visits per month, meaning that more than 1,000 children will be assisted each year. Families can heal and bond at the 7,300 square-foot facility on the South Side. They will be able to meet in their own visit room or the various common areas, including an indoor playground, dining area and game room. The building was designed by The America Society of Interior Designers.
