Crazed Holidays? Tips for Slowing Down and Enjoying the Season

Seems each year the holiday season gets fuller of things you’re “supposed to do” to make your days be merry and bright, instead of just doing the things you want to do. So, here are some tips to take the crazed out of the holidays.

  • Make lists – whether it is the Christmas card list, the gift purchase list or the holiday meal grocery list, make your lists to get it down all in one place. Consider a phone app like Evernote that syncs between your laptop and phone, so you always have them with you.
  • Cut back – now that those lists are done, take another look. Who can you cut from your holiday card list (maybe the former neighbor you haven’t seen in five years?), what gathering can you skip so you can spend more time with your family, and do you really need to stress yourself out with Elf on a Shelf?
  •  Delegate – Have the husband deal with the lights outside, even if they won’t quite be as perfect. Tell the kids to stuff the holiday cards into the envelopes (bribe them with store-bought Christmas cookies). Order your holiday pies and desserts from a local bakery that makes stunning desserts and doesn’t mind if you pass them off as your own (like Tracy Dempsey Originals – the foremost dessert expert in the East Valley – www.tracydempseyoriginals.comto order)
  • Relax – Take time to enjoy the season. Get a bit of exercise each day (take a walk with your spouse or visiting relative to enjoy the lights). Block some nights on your calendar just to be home and enjoy your family and your home.

The holidays don’t need to be crazed. Take control and enjoy all that is merry and bright!
