County Health Clinic Now Providing Flu Vaccine

Local residents can protect themselves against the flu with the latest vaccine for the 2018-19 season.

Vaccinations are now available at the Coconino County Public Health Services District Clinic in Flagstaff. Although a yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this shot is more important for some people, including children less than five, particularly those under two years of age or with special healthcare needs. Senior citizens are also more susceptible to the flu, so people 50 years and older should definitely get vaccinated.

Anyone who is at high risk for complications with flu should get the vaccine, as should those who live in long-term care facilities or those who work in the healthcare industry. People who suffer from certain chronic medical conditions are also urged to stay on the safe side and get their flu shots.
The county clinic is offering flu vaccines for a cost of $30. The office can bill insurance companies, but those who want a flu shot are kindly encouraged to check with their healthcare cover provider first to confirm coverage. Please bring your insurance card if you can,  but keep in mind that no one will be denied services due to an inability to pay.

The flu vaccine plays an important role in protecting people from the flu virus. Every flu season, medical and scientific experts develop and manufacture a new vaccine designed to combat circulating influenza viruses. Although it’s too early to tell how effective this season’s vaccine is, immunization greatly reduces the likelihood of influenza-related complications like hospitalization, chronic disease or even death. The earlier people get vaccinated, the better, as this gives their immune system more time and energy to prepare for combating any flu viruses.

The CCPHSD Clinic at 2625 N. King Street will be offering flu shot appointments Mondays-Fridays from 8 – 11 a.m. and noon – 5 p.m. Walk-ins will be accepted as availability allows. To schedule your appointment and protect yourself from the flu, please call the CCPHSD Clinic at 928-679-7222 to make an appointment today.
