Condor Release Open to Public

Condor Release Open to Public

Wildlife and nature enthusiasts should mark Saturday, September 30th on their calendar- this will be the 21st annual public release of magnificent California Condors into the wild!

As the largest land bird in North America, these condors are magnificent, and they make for quite the beautiful sight as they are released into the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument in Northern Arizona. Set for 11 a.m. on the last Saturday of the month, the release is open to the public, who will be able to observe from a viewing area equipped with spotting scopes. Project personnel will also be on hand to answer any questions about the condor recovery program, which began in 1996.

With the program, condors are hatched and reared safely in captivity at The Peregrine Fund’s World Center for Birds of Prey in Boise, Idaho. They are then transported to Arizona for release to the wild.
