Comment on Proposed Changes to Sign Regulations

Chandler citizens are invited to provide public comments on proposed amendments to the city’s sign regulations.

In response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision last year in Reed vs. Town of Gilbert, the city is amending it’s sign regulations. The Court ruled that it is unconstitutional for municipalities to regulate signs differently based on the message and what it says. Following the ruling, the City of Chandler is in the process of amending its Sign Code, Chapter 39 of the City of Chandler Code, to be content-neutral.

Citizens are encouraged to take a look at draft revisions available online and send any questions or comments regarding the proposed Sign Code amendments to David de la Torre, Principal Planner, at [email protected] .

Citizens are also encouraged to participate in public hearings regarding this issue. The next hearing is the Planning Commission meeting at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, April 19th, at the Council Chambers (88 E. Chicago Street). Another hearing will be held at the City Council Chambers on Thursday, May 11th at 7 pm. Please visit the official Public Hearing Process webpage for more information on this process.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, city of Chandler staff is available Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, to answer planning and zoning related questions at 480-782-3050.
