A case similar to the “House of Horrors” in California has shocked the Tucson community.
Pima County Sheriff’s Office officials filed criminal charges against a Tucson couple last month after discovering a tragic case of child abuse.
69-year-old Benito Gutierrez and 64-year-old Carol Gutierrez have each been charged with three counts of child abuse for allegedly abusing their four adopted children.
The children range in age from 6 to 12 years, and they were discovered living in filth, where they were forced to go up to 12 hours without food, water, or bathroom facilities. One of the children managed to escape through a window before heading to a nearby store, where authorities were alerted.
The children are safe and recovering from their ordeal.
