The competition is sponsored by the Greater Arizona Chapter of the National Society of Arts & Letters (NSAL).
To enter, students submit no more than 3 poems and not more than 25 lines in length by December 15, 2017. Submissions will be judged in two categories: Freshman & Sophomore (lower level) and Junior and Senior (upper level).
Monetary prizes include: $350, $200, and $100 (first, second, and third for upper level) and $200, $100, and $50 (first, second and third for lower level. Monies will be awarded directly to the winning poets.
“To encourage maximum creativity and participation, there is no style or genre requirement,” says Steve Crosby, Arizona NSAL board member. “Poems will be judged on originality, technical skill and emergence of a personal voice.”
Judges include: Alberto Rios, Arizona State University Regents’ Professor and Arizona Poet Laureate; Sally Ball, Arizona State University Associate Professor of English; and Mary Anne Morefield, published poet and Arizona resident.
