Border Patrol Agents Involved in Shooting Incident
Border patrol agents were involved in a shooting incident at a rest area early Tuesday morning.
Yuma Border Patrol agents responded to a call for assistance from the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office as they tried to track down a suspect involved in an earlier shooting.
Several agents arrived at the westbound rest area near milepost 51 west of Phoenix around 2:00 am Tuesday. Soon after their arrival, the agents who responded as backup discharged their firearms.
The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Sladjan Petkovic, and Phoenix police said he had an ongoing dispute with a Stephen Arvallo, a 45-year-old man fatally shot Monday night.
Petkovic sustained serious injuries during the incident and was transported to a local hospital. No law enforcement officers or bystanders were hurt during the incident.
