First responders made a sad discovery on Friday.
Firefighters were called to the canal at 95th Avenue and McDowell Road for a water rescue twice. The first time, the caller was gone by the time firefighters arrived, and crews did not locate anyone in the water.
Bystanders made the second call after they saw the person underwater, and that’s when crews found the body.
“At this time the gender and age of the body is unknown however crews do believe that based on the size of the body that it is a deceased adult,” Capt. Larry Subervi of the Phoenix Fire Department said in an email.
It has not yet been determined how the person ended up in the water or how long he or she was submerged for. About 15 Fire personell were involved in the recovery operation.
