Bisbee Pride 2019

Bisbee Pride 2019

Anyone who has spent time in Bisbee, Arizona knows what a diverse, friendly and colorful town it is. That spirit was embodied in 2004 when a small group of LGBT friends began Bisbee Pride. Since then, the annual celebration of pride has evolved into a year-round, community service-focused, non-profit organization that enjoys support from the town of Bisbee and surrounding area.

Thanks to the ongoing efforts of Bisbee Pride, Bisbee was the first Arizona municipality to pass a Civil Union Ordinance even before marriage equality became federal law. In 2008 the group brought the AIDS Memorial Quilt “The Names Project Foundation” to Old Bisbee, bringing AIDS awareness to Cochise County. And since its inception, Bisbee Pride has provided ongoing financial support to Chiricahua Community Clinic’s domestic violence program, financial resources to the Bisbee Mining and Historical Society for their renovation of Grassy Park in 2014, sponsored local workshops like “Coming Out in Cochise” in 2017, and much more.

Their mission is a commitment to the goals of wellness, education, human rights and acceptance within the LGBTQ and greater Cochise County community, which they continue to honor and celebrate at this year’s Bisbee Pride weekend.

Bisbee Pride 2019

The 3-day festival is held on Father’s Day weekend each year, landing next month on June 14-16, 2019. This year they will be Remembering Stonewall – 50 Years Later. The Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, New York was raided by police in late June, 1969. The ensuing protests and riots were considered to be the spark that lit the gay liberation movement and ultimately, the rights for LGBTQ equality in our country.

The highlight of the weekend is arguably the Pride Parade which will be held Saturday, June 15 from 10am to 12pm. With nominal application fees, anyone and everyone is encouraged to walk, ride, float, and basically strut their colorful support for Bisbee and the LGBTQ community.

Numerous local sponsors help make this event such a success. Sponsorship opportunities are still available until May 24. To become a sponsor, donate, or participate in the parade, please visit for much more information.
