The City of Tempe is bringing the arts to parks throughout the city, and your park could be one of them. Tempe’s Arts in the Parks program is expanding this year, giving residents a chance to submit their parks for an arts event.
A number of parks throughout the city will be selected by city staff in late September. In October, residents living near selected parks will have the opportunity to take part in a survey and community meeting to provide feedback on the event activities and themes. This will help ensure that each arts event captures the essence of that community. All events will take place in spring 2019 on either weekday evenings or weekend afternoons and will include performances, live-art, hands on art making and more.
Deadline to submit is Sept. 16, 2018. Residents must submit an Interest Form for their park to be considered.
In 2017, the Tempe City Council approved Arts in the Parks, a pilot program designed to make the arts more easily accessible throughout the community. Last year, two neighborhoods worked with the city to build an arts and culture event that reflected the identity and values of their own neighborhoods. City staff utilized that experience, along with community feedback, to further develop and increase the program, which was approved by City Council this summer.
