Arizona Man Charged With Killing Sick Wife

A Phoenix man was arrested and charged with killing his wife, whom had recently suffered a stroke.

According to Phoenix Police, 45-year-old Jonathan Conaway told officials his wife had “become a burden” after her stroke. He was taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree murder after he phoned 911 and said his wife was dead.

When first responders arrived at Conaway’s home, they found 43-year-old Janice Conaway deceased on a couch, with a wrench and belt close by. Jonathan Conaway later told authorities he struck his wife with the wrench and used the belt to strangle her. The couple’s two sons were not home at the time of the incident. He also told police he had recently lost his job amidst financial and personal problems for the couple, which worsened after the stroke.

According to court documents, “Jonathan felt like a failure and viewed Janice as a burden,” KNXV-TV reported.

Conaway remained in jail on a $1 million bond.
