Many parents, students, teachers and community members are not thrilled with a local school district following a recent announcement.
Last week, the Apache Junction School District approved a new, “modified year-round” schedule. The school board also adopted a five-day school week, a change from their normal four-day week. The switch is set to take effect during the 2018-2019 school year.
Many teachers, students and community members were unhappy with the news, even taking to the streets Monday to protest and fight for change. For hours, teachers displayed signs and took their concerns to the street. The teachers spoke out about how the staff and parents’ opinions were not taken seriously when the district decided to make the move to five days.
