Alleged Car Burglar Calls 911 When Confronted

An incident of vehicle theft took a turn this week when the suspect called 911 to report being threatened by the owner of the pickup truck.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department, 25-year-old Robert Jones of Glendale, Arizona was booked into the Camp Verde jail on suspicion of criminal damage and burglary.

Jones is accused of breaking the window of a disabled pickup truck and removing items from inside the vehicle. When Sheriff’s deputies contacted the truck’s owner, he said he had left his vehicle on the side of Highway 69 due to a flat tire. When the owner returned with a spare tire, he noticed the broken window and confronted Jones.

Officials say Jones denied playing any role in the theft, although the victim observed his duffel bag and tire iron in the suspect’s vehicle.
