Police in Scottsdale have announced that alcohol was a contributing factor in a fatal early morning crash that claimed the life of a 46-year-old man.

Scottsdale Police say Ryan Ralph Thomas was heading west on Chaparral Road and was crossing the intersection of Hayden Road when a northbound vehicle ran a red light and hit Thomas’ vehicle. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at an area hospital.

Investigators determined the suspect vehicle was traveling over the speed limit and driving “erratically,” with alcohol as a factor in the collision.

The driver of that vehicle remained hospitalized in serious condition on Sunday evening as the investigation continues.
