Great Hearts Student Wins Bard Competition

On Wednesday, May 6th, Archway Trivium West student, Lavender James, won the Great Hearts 2020 Bard competition after reciting “All the World’s a Stage” from Shakespeare’s As You Like It. Lavender gave her recitation over Zoom where she was awarded first place. The event was livestreamed on the Great Hearts Academies Facebook page to parents, faculty and students.

The Great Hearts Bard competition is an annual favorite among the Archway Academies. One student from each of the Archway (elementary aged) schools is picked to compete. This year, ten students went head to head, reciting famous works that were then judged and voted to determine the winner. Lavender will recite her piece at the 2020 Great Hearts Gala in September. Lavender’s brother won the Great Hearts Bard two years ago.

Archway Trivium West is part of the Great Hearts Academies network of schools in metro Phoenix. The nonprofit public charter school is located at 2001 N. Bullard Ave. in Goodyear. Great Hearts is a nonprofit network of tuition-free public charter schools dedicated to improving education nationwide through classical preparatory K-12 academies.
