Entrepreneurial Ecosystem of Southern Arizona Symposium

(TUCSON, Ariz. – March 4, 2020) – “Entrepreneurial Ecosystem of Southern Arizona” will be the topic at the Arizona Association for Economic Development’s (AAED) Southern Arizona Symposium. It will be held on March 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the UA Tech Park, located at 9070 S. Rita Road in Tucson.

The symposium will explore the entrepreneurial ecosystem and how to leverage it for economic growth and community impact. Attendees will learn about the entrepreneurial ecosystem that is in place at the UA Tech Park, how it can affect the local and regional growth of entrepreneurship and how these environs are allowing for creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship in Southern Arizona.

Ana Greif, program manager for Workforce and Continuing Education at Pima Community College, will discuss what an entrepreneurial ecosystem is and how can we create them to promote and attract new business. 

A panel featuring Eric Smith, executive director of the University of Arizona Center of Innovation, Liz Pocock, CEO of Start Up Tucson, and Joann McMaster, CEO of Desert Angels, will provide attendees with a look at how successful entrepreneurial ecosystems function and what opportunities exist in our region to help promote its development.

Zach Yentzer, executive director of Tucson Young Professionals, will address what attracts and retains a skilled workforce in our region and how we can support the young professionals in our entrepreneurial ecosystem.

There will also be a case study presentation that examines the partnerships that allowed for homegrown PVB Fabrications to locate in the town of Marana, as well as a visit to the University of Arizona Center of Innovation building.

The cost of the symposium is $75 for AAED members, $100 for non-members and $125 for late registrants. This event is recognized by the Economic Development Academy of Arizona and counts toward credit in Module 1. To receive credit, interested attendees must pay an additional fee of $55.
