Madison Traditional Academy (MTA) in the Madison Elementary Schools District recently earned a 2019 Silver PBISaz Achievement Award, which recognizes schools for successful implementation and outcomes with school-wide systems of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS).
MTA is a preschool – 8th grade school in the Madison School District serving just over 800 students. The school focuses on the emotional, social and academic development of its students by providing a positive and safe learning environment for their students and community.
PBISaz Award criteria required high scores on national fidelity and integrity assessments as well as measurable student outcome data.
Principal Mike Duff notes that this award recognizes the dedication of school staff and the surrounding community to uphold Madison Traditional Academy expectations every day.
“We have worked hard to create a school culture that is supportive, positive and safe for all of our students,” Duff said. “This environment lays the foundation for students to be successful citizens and leaders of our nation. The PBISaz award will proudly be displayed in our school office and on our website. Madison Traditional Academy is committed to excellence and remains focused on each child’s social, emotional and academic development .”
MTA was created as a “school of choice” and has no neighborhood boundaries. The school accepts students based on the open enrollment policy of the Madison School District.
MTA’s curriculum features teacher-directed instruction, and incorporates Spalding phonics, Core Knowledge, Accelerated Reader and Saxon Math. All grade levels receive math instruction at a one year accelerated level. Kindergarten students at MTA begin with first grade math instruction. All academics for kindergarten are taught in the morning, with the afternoon being a fee-based program, working with students on remediation and enrichment of skills.
Additionally, MTA has a uniform policy, mandatory family volunteer requirement and utilizes Character Counts as their character education program.
MTA will begin accepting open enrollment applications for the 2020-2021 school year beginning December 2, 2019.
Classroom tours for all grade levels will be conducted on January 9, 16, and 23, 2020. Anyone wishing to attend Madison Traditional Academy must submit an open enrollment application to be eligible for the lottery.
