United Food Bank Unveils Transformed Volunteer Experience October 19

United Food Bank invites the community to come see how its volunteer experience has been transformed, thanks to a grant from the Virginia G. Piper Charitable trust. An open house event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 19 at the United Food Bank warehouse at 358 East Javelina Avenue in Mesa. The event will include an official ribbon cutting at 6:30 p.m. Food and drink will be served.

The grant allowed United Food Bank to renovate the volunteer warehouse building with A/C (a game-changer for volunteers during the hot summer months), a roll-up delivery door and extra volunteer capacity. All are invited to tour the renovated volunteer facility, learn about upcoming volunteer activities and meet United Food Bank’s volunteer staff. Attendees also can help pack food bags for distribution throughout the organization’s 19,000-square-mile service area.

United Food Bank relies on the generosity of more than 25,000 volunteer hours annually at this location to sort food for its 200+ partner agencies and prepare food for the kids’ backpack buddy bag program. Volunteers also assist the approximately 300 families who stretch their food dollars at the Help Yourself food co-op each Friday.

Can’t make it to the open house but want to volunteer?  Visit https://unitedfoodbank.org/volunteer/ for more information.
