Flagstaff Police have released the body cam footage in an incident at a local Walmart earlier this week involving the alleged assault of a Flagstaff Police Officer.
Store managers at the West Flagstaff Walmart asked a man, thought to be “Donald Walus,” to leave the store, and an officer responded to reports that Walus would not leave the premises.
Walus reportedly told the manager “he didn’t have to leave, because the manager didn’t own the land.” When the responding officer tried to speak to Walus, who was later correctly identified as Justus Law, the man refused and attempted to walk away. The officer told Law that he had to stay and talk due to the accusations of trespassing. Law disagreed and kept trying to leave, and he disobeyed the officer’s directions. That’s when the incident turned physical, as Law cocked his hand back as though he was going to hit the officer.
The officer was unsuccessful in several attempts to handcuff Law, and two other males arrived to the scene and assisted the officer in getting Law to the ground and arresting him. Law was taken to the Coconino County Jail and booked on charges of trespassing, failure to identify, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and aggravated assault.
