Phoenix firefighters say three teenagers were taken into custody after using fireworks that allegedly ignited a 2nd alarm brush fire in North Phoenix.
According to officials, two girls and a boy, all 16 years of age, started the 20-acre “Rey” fire that began burning on Tuesday afternoon in the area of 63rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road.
Responding fire crews had to battle the fire from several locations while trying to protect nearby homes. Phoenix Fire Captain Rob McDade confirmed that the fire was burning up a nearby mountain on one side, but crews have stopped forward progress of the blaze. An airtanker has been called in to assist with the firefighting efforts.
