The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office had an alarming case to respond to in Eloy, Arizona earlier this month when an elderly man drove through a drive-through window with his deceased wife in the passenger seat.
The incident happened at around 7:20 a.m. at the drive-through window of the Carl’s Jr. restaurant in Eloy. The restaurant worker alerted an Eloy police detective who was inside the building, and the detective located the vehicle nearby. 70-year-old Rodney Puckett was behind the wheel, and his 74-year-old wife, Linda Puckett, was dead.
Police are now investigating her death as suspicious. Puckett was taken into custody and charged with abandonment or concealment of a body, a crime that is defined in statutes as it’s “unlawful to knowingly move with intent to abandon or conceal” a body.
Police say Puckett told officers his wife had died in Texas while the pair, who hailed from Sandy Springs, Oklahoma, were on an “unplanned trip” to California. Authorities say the couple spent Sunday night at an El Paso hotel, with security footage showing the two of them walking to their room. Security cameras recorded Puckett pushing a luggage cart out of the room early Monday morning with what appears to be his wife’s body on it, concealed by a blanket or sheet. Police also say Rodney told detectives in an interview that he found his wife unresponsive in the hotel room, and he was not able to wake her so he loaded her into the vehicle to continue on their way.
As more details surrounding this tragedy are released, a statement from Eloy Police indicates more charges may be filed.
