The entire month of April is Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Month of the Military Child and Thursday, April 25th is PurpleUp! A day where everyone wears purple to show their support for military children. Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley (BGCEV) and Veterans Tickets Foundation (Vet Tix) are providing memories and opportunities for every child of a military family. A waived yearly membership fee will be given to each child after providing proof of military service and Vet Tix, who has thousands of members in the East Valley will provide free event tickets to families who are Vet Tixers.
“Being able to give back to the families that have sacrificed for much for us, is such an honor,” said Lisa Ellis, Director of Communications at BGCEV. “Not only are we able to give back to our East Valley community but we are able to provide each child with opportunities they might not have otherwise. Vet Tix is a great example of that.”
Members of BGCEV can take the month of April as an opportunity to sign up for free at any club in the East Valley while their parents can become Vet Tixers.. Club members can receive up to $200 in individual membership grant credits for a Military connected youth by checking with their local club. Being a Vet Tixer has the ability to change the lives of families who have been effected by the military by allowing them to get out into society and attend events they wouldn’t normally go too with their families.
“I have been a Vet Tixer for about 3 years now and the moment it changed our lives,” said local resident and US Army veteran, David Zavala. “I took my 4 girls to a ballet and I remember the girls were dancing and acting out the moves during intermission. I would never go to a ballet prior but that to me was the moment I knew Vet Tix was doing great things for Veterans for a nominal fee.”

Veteran Tickets Foundation (Vet Tix), a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit, provides free tickets to sporting events, concerts, performing arts and family activities to currently serving military, National Guard and Reserves, veterans of all eras, immediate family of those killed in action, and VetTixers’ caregivers. Since 2008, Vet Tix has provided over 6 million free event tickets to more than 1 million members. In 2018 Vet Tix launched 1st Tix, which provides the same service to our nation’s current and retired law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMTs. These events help veterans and first responders reduce stress, strengthen family bonds, build lifelong memories, and encourage them to stay engaged with American life and their local communities. Vet Tix spends over 95 percent of its revenue on programs, ensuring that we give back to those who have given so much.
