The “Strings and Ballerinas” performance at the Tempe Center for the Arts Theater, Jan. 13, Sunday, 2:30 p.m., is presented by Hayden’s Ferry Chamber Music Series.

This unique concert pairs chamber music, encompassing Baroque through contemporary works and genres, with original choreography.

The program features violinist Kobi Malkin, cellist Christine Lee and New York ballerinas Traci Finch, Shannon Maynor, Anne Sandefur and Dona Wiley as chamber music is combined with original choreography in a salon style concert.

Israeli violinist Kobi Malkin has been praised by The New York Times for his “gorgeous tone and an edge-of-seat intensity.” An avid chamber musician and international performer, he is an alumnus of Ensemble Connect, a program of Carnegie Hall and The Juilliard School. Malkin holds a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School and a Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory. He performs on a 1701 Pietro Guarneri violin on loan to him.

Korean cellist Christine Lee is an award-winning performer who has circled the globe. She began playing cello at seven years of age and made her debut with the Seoul Philharmonic when she was nine. She is currently an artist-in-residents at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Belgium.

The musicians and dancers are part of CelloPointe founded in 2011. It began as a simple duet between cellist Peter Wiley and his ballerina daughter Dona Wiley. Wife and mother Marcia Wiley became the executive director.

In concert, chamber music pieces with musicians alone on stage divide the collaborative musician and dancer pieces. “The mix of composers, eras and genres presents a rich experience for the audience,” notes Marcia Wiley.

“We are seeing less live music used in dance programming. One of the greatest joys in creating CelloPointe has been to re-invent the use of music in dance as a living art form—it should never be the same,” says Wiley.

Adult tickets $30 include a wine reception with the artists following the performance. Students tickets $10 with ID. TCA Box Office: 480-350-2822  http://bit.ly/HaydensFerry18-19  www.haydensferrychambermusicseries.org
