Tempe Prep Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists

Congratulations to seven Tempe Preparatory Academy seniors who have earned prestigious national recognition for their impressive PSAT scores.

Three Tempe Prep seniors (6% of the class) earned National Merit Semifinalist status, a recognition given to the top 0.5% of students nationally. An additional four seniors were named Commended Scholars.

Tempe Prep seniors Bryce Klassen, Zane Pautzke, and Peter Surin are among 16,000 Semifinalists identified out of 1.6 million students across the nation who entered the competition when they took their PSATs. These students now have the prospect of being selected as Finalists later this year and receiving many impressive college scholarship awards.

Seniors Jacqueline Kirk, Alec Mitchell, Steven Veenstra, and Alexander Wait are among approximately 34,000 students nationwide who were distinguished as Commended Students and have received certificates acknowledging academic promise. These seven students represent 14% of Tempe Prep’s senior class receiving recognition in the top 2.5% of students nationally. 

Dr. Wayne Porter, Headmaster of Tempe Preparatory Academy, says, “In addition to our pride in continuing our tradition of having students achieve exceptional academic accomplishments, we are proud that they have also demonstrated outstanding character as leaders on campus and in their wide array of extracurricular activities, including music, speech and debate, robotics, athletics, and service in the greater community.”
