Healthy employees are a huge benefit to a company’s bottom line. As open enrollment season approaches (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, 2018), many companies in the Valley are focused on ways to keep their workforce healthy and motivated to make positive food and exercise choices.
Terryberry, a 100-year-old company focused on building a culture of employee recognition, is kicking off its inaugural Arizona Walking Challenge (www.workplacewalkingchallenge.com) to inspire businesses of all sizes to prioritize their employees’ health.
Research shows walking at work helps prevent and manage diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. It strengthens bones and muscles, reduces weight and improves balance and coordination. Plus, walking at work also reduces stress and increases creativity.
The Arizona Walking Challenge will take place from Oct. 1 through Nov. 11. Registration is open now!
Terryberry began the workplace walking challenge in 2016 in Grand Rapids, Mich. with a handful of wellness-minded organizations. In 2017, 52 West Michigan companies participated in the 6-week challenge with 2,635 participants walking over 499,494 miles – further than a trip to the moon and back! Participants walked an average of 66,726 steps per week. It’s anticipated that the 2018 event will include more than 75 companies who will lace up for the popular 6-week challenge.
