Church of the Beatitudes Hosts Third Annual Sing Phoenix! Choral Festival Oct. 18-20

The Sing Phoenix! Choral Festival returns to Church of the Beatitudes from Thursday, Oct. 18 – Saturday, Oct. 20. This year’s festival celebrates the music of Morten Lauridsen and will feature five choirs, more than 250 singers, and chamber orchestra.

The festival takes place all weekend, with several events open to the public, including a final concert Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. All events are located at Church of the Beatitudes (555 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix). This year will honor the life and works of Morten Lauridsen, who will serve as festival clinician and Guest of Honor. Mr. Lauridsen will host a variety of musical events open to the public, culminating in a performance of his music the evening of Oct. 20.

Tickets are $50 for a Festival Ticket, which covers admission to any event taking place all weekend. This includes: general seating to choral workshops, a Q&A/Performance with the composer, a New Music premiere, a screening of Morten Lauridsen’s personal documentary, and admission to the festival’s culminating concert on Saturday night. Tickets are $25 for general admission to the Oct. 20, 7 p.m. concert.

About the Festival: Now in its third year, the Sing Phoenix! Choral Festival began in 2016 and strives to provide unique, professional performance experiences to passionate singers and instrumentalists of all ages and skill levels, through the music of well-known, living, choral composers. The festival speaks to the transformative power of singing and making music together to shape our hearts and strengthen community.

Morten Lauridsen is an American choral composer and a professor of theory and composition for the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. He is a recent recipient of the American Society of Composers Foundation’s Life in Music Award, and is a National Medal of Arts recipient, the highest artistic award in the United States, by the President in a White House ceremony “for his composition of radiant works combining musical beauty, power and spiritual depth.” His choral works have been recorded on more than 200 CDs, five of which have received Grammy nominations. He was named an “American Choral Master” by the National Endowment for the Arts.
