In this wide world, there is a place called the Sonoran Desert, and a boy named Chapo Robles lives here, in a town called Douglas / Agua Prieta. A fun fact about Chapo: he loves horses. But this article is about his 5th birthday party, which passed 7 years ago, AND about his party coming up this Saturday, June 30.
Summer is hot – Arizona is hot – Sumer in Arizona is super hot hot! Perfect time for birthday pool parties, and in fact, Chapo was sharing a double birthday pool party with one of his cousins. At some point, Chapo\\\’s sister Rachel noticed that he was not well. He was not moving, not responding, almost like he was frozen. She got their mother Lupita to check on him.
He was transported over 100 miles away from his party to Tucson Medical Center. The family would later learn that Chapo had suffered his first chronic seizure. When Chapo woke much, much later, he asked what any 5 year old would want to know: what happened to his party?
His stay stretched on for 7 days. Some of the hospital staff threw a birthday party for Chapo and his cousin. Such unexpected compassion and generosity inspired the Robles family to sponsor their own annual toy drive. Each year, with the help of the community at large, the Robles deliver toys and donations to Tucson Medical Center on Chapo\\\’s birthday. Over the past 6 years, they have cheered other families with over 2300 toys and other gifts.
This Saturday, June 30, there is a party for Chapo at 5882 N Kings Ranch, Douglas, Arizona. Highlights of this party are a trail ride – $20 per horse – a show with dancing horses, dancing for peoples, raffles, food, and naturally, lively music. The party starts at 9 with an open end time. Proceeds raised will assist the Robles family in obtaining needed medical procedures which are not provided for by the family\\\’s health coverage.
Something else special about this party, it presents an opportunity to experience the unique multi-culturalism of this border town. Such a venue offers something alluring for the community activists, the philanthropist, the culturalist, the horse and riding enthusiast, the foodie, the writer, the photographer, the artist, the musician, the I Just LUV A Partyer!
And of course, while in the area, there are plenty of establishments in Bisbee who would welcome visitors! You can preview or post about the life at bisbee4fun.
