UMOM New Day Centers, Arizona’s innovative leader in shelter, services and affordable housing for people experiencing homelessness, is enthusiastically gearing up for the fifth annual Arizona Gives Day on April 3, 2018.

For those who may be new to town, Arizona Gives Day (AZ Gives) is a 24-hour online, grassroots giving event. Participating nonprofits statewide join together in a single voice, encouraging people to invest in Arizona by donating to organizations that improve our communities and strengthen our local economy.

One generous donor has offered to match up to $25,000 in donations on Arizona Gives Day. This means if individuals raise $25,000 for UMOM, their gifts will be doubled and have double the impact for families, women and youth experiencing homelessness in the community.

Darlene Newsom, CEO of the UMOM New Day Centers, said, “For this year, we decided to lift the bar a little higher and challenge ourselves. Our goal is to – with the help of our friends and donors – raise $25,000 in just 24 hours.” Newsom added, “We have tremendous faith that those who know us will help – they always do. But to hit our goal, we’re definitely hoping our friends will introduce us to new friends!”

Begun in 1964, UMOM came into its own as a separate nonprofit in 1984. Over the course of more than 50 years, UMOM has provided thousands of families, single women, teens and young adults with emergency shelter, affordable housing and an array of services. Every facet of UMOM’s work is focused on one goal: a permanent end to homelessness. In fiscal year 2017, UMOM helped 1,850 families exit to permanent housing.

To participate in Arizona Gives Day, mark your calendar for April 3rd and plan to visit Visit anytime to find answers to questions about Arizona Gives Day. To count toward UMOM’s $25,000 match goal, donations must go through the AZ Gives website. But you’re always welcome to give anytime through UMOM’s website at

One more tip for those hoping to squeeze in an extra tax break: you can claim your donation as an Arizona Charitable Tax Credit. It’s a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the amount you owe. Individuals may deduct up to $400, couples may claim up to $800. Make your donation on AZ Gives Day – or to UMOM any time before April 17, 2018 – and you’ll move your hard-earned money to the causes that are most important to you.
