Surprise Police detained a man for trespassing at the Ottawa University campus on Tuesday morning.

Two guns were discovered inside the man’s car after officers responded to the school near Greenway Road and Civic Center Drive following reports of a trespasser who was “behaving suspiciously.”

Police detained the man in his 30s without incident. Their investigation found that the man had at least two handguns inside his car. Students and staff at Ottawa University were evacuated out of an abundance of caution while officers performed a security sweep of the campus, which found nothing suspicious.

Police are continuing their investigation into the man’s reason for being on campus and misdemeanor trespassing charges are pending.
