Xavier Prep Academy’s athletics continue to shine, with their girls cross country teams competing in the championships last weekend
Xavier runners headed to the Nike Cross Regional- Southwest Cross Country Championships at Grande Sports World in Casa Grande last weekend, where they ran their hearts out for the grand finale of their season.
They competed alongside teams from Utah, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, and ultimately took home 18th place out of 27 teams.
Similarly to their performance at the State Championships on November 4, the Gators were the 2nd best Arizona team in the competition, led by Chandler in 13th place.
Replicating her stellar state performance, freshman Jamie Stelnik led the pack for Xavier, coming in 83rd out of 237 runners. Her solid improvement throughout the season earned her spot as one of Xavier’s Top 7. She was the top freshman at the State Championships- taking 11th place as Xavier’s top runner. At NXR-SW, she had the 6th best performance for a freshman.
Xavier’s other talented runners included freshman Cami Merickel, sophomore Mia Olsen, junior Helen Innes, and seniors Caroline McClelland, Caroline McLiddy, and Kate Straneva.
