Two suspects have been apprehended after a man died during an attempted robbery at his Gilbert residence on Monday night.

Police were called to a home near Houston Avenue and Gilbert Road around 9 p.m. They received reports from a caller who witnessed 27-year-old Shane Mullins being attacked by two assailants.

When officers entered the home, they discovered Mullins tied up not breathing. They also heard noises from overhead, and they soon found two men hiding in the attic.

These two men, 20-year-old Torre Sanders and a 17-year-old juvenile, were arrested at the scene. Gilbert police say the men intended to rob Mullins and steal drugs and other valuables from the residence.

While the specific cause of death has not yet been determined, Gilbert police say it appears the suspects’ actions directly contributed to Shane Mullins’ death.
