Sidepony Express Music Festival is a three-day showcase of emerging independent musical artists in one of the most quirky, colorful and inspiring places on earth…none other than Bisbee, AZ.
Genres include (loosely-labeled): indie folk, hip-hop fusion, island jam funk, experimental surf metal, avant-pop dance rock, lo-fi garage jazz, western psychedelic soul, desert noir, and much much more…
The 6th-annual event will be held across multiple venues in Bisbee during the weekend of November 10-12, 2017.
To give you an idea, last year we had 18 unique venues and over 85 bands who each played several times throughout the weekend in different spaces.
This event is open and free to the public.
Once a booming copper-mining town, this haunted high-desert destination is nestled in the Mule Mountains of Cochise County about 30 minutes Southeast of the O.K. Corral in Tombstone. Rich with vibrant natural landscapes and majestic Victorian architecture, Bisbee is a feast for the eyes. Whether from all of the minerals in the earth or just the eclectic open-minded populous, the area is magnetic.
In the late 20th century it experienced a renaissance of culture with a large influx of artist residents. Now a haven for left-of-center free-thinkers and an ever-growing art colony, Bisbee is an ideal spot for a festival celebrating underground, original, art-forward music from artists across the genre board.
November 10-12, 2017
Friday 4pm – 2am
Saturday Noon – 2am
Sunday Noon – 11pm
Where is Bisbee? Bisbee is in the Southeastern corner of Arizona in Cochise County, near the Mexican border. It is a remote, picturesque, mile-high historic mining town known for its copper, turquoise, birdwatching and colorful community of artist residents.
3.5 hours from Phoenix
2 hours from Tucson
30 mins from Tombstone
4 hours from Las Cruces, NM / El Paso, TX
Where do I buy tickets? The entire festival is free and open to the public.
Is it family-friendly? Though the event is geared more toward adults (several venues are saloons and breweries), there are many fun things for kids to do around Bisbee (mine tour, museum, etc.).
Are there age restrictions? Many venues are all-ages, a few of them become 21+ at night.
Where can I view the schedule? The exact performance schedule will be announced online very close to the event, and printed programs w/schedule and map will be available at the info booth, location TBA.
Who are these bands and what kind of music is it? These bands are all independent artists who create original music and are active in the Southwestern underground circuit and beyond. Every year our reach expands and we showcase bands from all over the US and beyond. Bands from all kinds of genres are represented here, and we hope to expand the variety each year.
Click on the band names on the Lineup page (when it is published) and it will take you to their Facebook or website where you can hear their music, watch videos and learn more about them.
Or read through our home page blog roll for some handpicked posts of band videos, photos, reviews, bios, and more.
Is this an art festival too? Will there be vendors? Generally not. That is always subject to change. Bisbee is an art haven to be discovered amidst all the curios, antiques and boutique shops in this hideaway town…so go explore and see what you can find that’s hiding right in front of you.
Is there camping? There are a few campgrounds outside of town, but we highly recommend getting a bed and breakfast in the Old Bisbee area, as the roads are dark and windy out there late at night, and there are no local taxi services.
Will there be any jam sessions? All weekend long, baby!
What do I do when I get there? Come to the registration booth to get the lowdown right away. Check our website and facebook page for the location and details on the day of. Grab a program with the schedule, map, recommendations, etc..
I’m in a band that’s playing, do I need my drum kit or bass amp? Nope. Stages will be backlined with those as well as guitar amps. Drummers please bring your own snares, brass and pedal. If you need more than a basic 4-5pc rock setup then you’ll need to bring that as well. Otherwise we’ve got you covered.
