With a diverse clientele of over 4.8 million people, it’s important for the Phoenix Public Library to have friendly, professional staff to ensure a quality experience.
Library assistants are needed to provide public information service and support. This may include everything from teaching basic computer or workforce readiness classes to conducting children’s story time and assisting with library services. Library assistants work independently under the general supervision of a Librarian or Branch Manager. The ideal candidate must be able to multi-task and resolve problems while interacting with a diverse customer base in a fast paced environment.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, humanities, social sciences, education or a related field. They must be willing and able to work irregular hours, as weekends, holidays and evenings may be required. Communication skills and customer service are key, as well as a positive attitude and ability to be flexible. Candidates need to be proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office, exhibit excellent organizational skills, and have experience with teaching, presenting, and/or working with children and teens.
Pay is $16.75/hourly, and while this position is part-time and does not include benefits, free bus card/light rail pass is available.
