Downtown Tempe Authority distributed the first installment of the Tempe Mission funds raised — $30,000 — during their State of Downtown meeting at on Nov. 1, 2017.

Last summer, the Downtown Tempe business community, through Downtown Tempe Authority, formed the Tempe Mission campaign and pledged to raise $100,000 in cash and in-kind donations to benefit social service organizations that assist the homeless community in Tempe.

The Tempe Mission campaign so far has raised $70,000 in cash and in-kind donations through the Mission Meters (kiosks outfitted with parking meters that serve as donation receptacles), a local Mill’s Mission Brew sold at several restaurants and bars, and events and activations in the Downtown Tempe business district.

The organizations receiving funds are:

  • Tempe Community Action Agency’s Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program (I-HELP)– the only shelter program in Tempe that provides for the immediate needs of homeless individuals and offers them resources for finding employment and regaining self-sufficiency.
  • Community Bridges– provides comprehensive, medically integrated behavioral health programs that include prevention, education and treatment services.
  • CARE 7– dispatched by Tempe Police and/or Fire, CARE 7 provides support, assistance, and referrals to clients at a crisis point in their lives and beyond through their healing and recovery process.
  • Salvation Army — This Salvation Army location is a community center dedicated to providing an assortment of services to the Tempe community, including Christian education, disaster services, emergency financial assistance, emergency shelter, women and men’s ministries, and worship services.
