The retrial of accused NAU shooter Steven Jones that was slated to begin this week has been delayed until next year.
The trial was scheduled to start Tuesday, but Coconino County Division 2 Superior Court Judge Dan Slayton moved the date to March 27 due to a member of Jones’ defense team being unable to proceed to trial at this time.
The trial delay has raised concern for the victims and their families. Jones is accused of one count of first degree murder after killing Colin Brough with a handgun. He also faces six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for injuring Nick Prato, Nick Piring and Kyle Zientek in the 2015 incident.
Jones claims he shot in self-defense, and a mistrial was declared in May after the jury could not agree on a verdict for all counts.
