Sedona Fire District Responds to Fatal Fall at Midgley Bridge

Around 2:00pm on September 2, 2017, Sedona fire crews were dispatched for an extreme fall injury below Midgley Bridge, which is located in the Coconino National Forest, northeast of Sedona along Route 89A. Upon arrival, Battalion Chief Dave Cochrane located the victim on a ledge approximately 65 feet below the trail.

Officials now say the victim was a 2 1/2 year old boy who was vacationing with his family from Omaha, Nebraska. He had fallen off a cliff while his family was hiking along the Midgley Bridge Trail.

Cochrane directed his firefighters to rappel the vertical rock face to establish rapid contact with the victim. After firefighters gained access they determined that the boy had died.

The scene was turned over to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office who will be investigating the incident. All further inquiries regarding this incident should be directed to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office.
