Vega for Tempe City Council

A long-time Tempe resident and active community member, Genevieve Vega is running as a professional and pragmatic progressive for Tempe City Council. Genevieve’s compassion and strength of character is often modeled after her grandfather, George Marsh Buck (deceased), a retired a colonel in the Green Berets, who rescued and adopted Genevieve’s mom during the Vietnam War. Raised by an American family and given more opportunity than a Vietnamese girl normally would have, Genevieve’s mom instilled an ethic of hard work and independence.

Genevieve and her husband Dave love Tempe and have chosen this community to raise their family, son Dante (14, McClintock High School), daughter Sophie (6, Aguilar Elementary) and fur-baby Darwin (42 dog-years), because they believe honesty, openness, cooperation, and education are the qualities that make Tempe an incredible place. Genevieve also recognizes that there are serious issues to tackle around growth, traffic, jobs, and protecting Tempe’s wonderful neighborhoods. Her goal is to find ways to bring people and organizations together to address and effectively communicate the most vexing issues to move Tempe forward.

Genevieve is a two-time Sun Devil, who obtained a B.A. in Communication and recently graduated with her Executive MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business, which motivated her to start her own business helping small to medium companies grow and succeed. Her professional specialties include strategic facilitation, change management, process improvement, and stakeholder consulting.

For over a decade, Genevieve has been a champion of progressive values while serving in various leadership positions and volunteering for causes related to school improvements,  voting rights, and human services. Some of the issues she is most passionate about are linked to homeless resources, domestic violence, under privileged youth services, disability, and veteran’s issues.  This summer, Genevieve will begin her second term on the Tempe Community Council Board of Directors where she has co-chaired the Don Carlos Humanitarian Awards Ceremony for 3 years, and she is also beginning a new commitment to the Phoenix Suns Charities Board of Directors.

With  a career built on creating strategies to manage change while growing people and businesses, Genevieve wants to leverage her leadership experience to engage City Staff and the community to make considerate decisions for the City of Tempe.

Hear from Genevieve at her campaign launch party this Saturday, July 15 at 7:00 pm at her family’s home, 502 E. Geneva Dr., Tempe, AZ 85282 or stay in touch with her campaign via social media or her website www.VegaForTempe.com. #VoteVega!
