Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck on Tucson Street

Tucson police responded to reports of an early morning collision between a car and a pedestrian on Saturday.

41-year-old Gabriel Ramirez was struck and killed around 2:30 a.m. when he tried to run across Valencia Road near South Sixth Avenue on the city’s south side.

The driver of a Toyota RAV4 traveling westbound on Valencia Road was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting Ramirez, according to a news release from the Tucson Police Department. Ramirez was not in a crosswalk at the time of the crash, and although bystanders tried to save him, he passed away shortly after.

The driver stayed at the scene and was not injured. Police say there were no signs of impairment found for the driver, and no arrests or citations have been issued as of yet as the investigation continues.
