An Historian’s Perspective: Why Trump Won the Election – Kiwanis Club of Tempe

Dr. Larry Schweikart, who is author of “A Patriot’s History of the United States,” is making a return visit to the Kiwanis Club of Tempe as one of our June luncheon speakers.

A native Arizonian, he went to Arizona State University and received a B.A. in political science, then went on the road with several different rock bands, opening for such 60s/70s acts as Steppenwolf and the James Gang. He abruptly decided he wanted to be a history professor, and received an MA from ASU in history, then a Ph.D. from University of California, Santa Barbara. Since 1985, he has taught at the University of Dayton.  Schweikart’s best-selling books include “Seven Events that Made America,” “48 Liberal Lies About American History,” and his #1 NY-Times bestseller, with Mike Allen, “A Patriot’s History of the United States.” Recently he completed a history of the modern world with Dave Dougherty, “A Patriot’s History of the Modern World” in two volumes. He has been on almost all media, from Al-Jazeera to Glenn Beck, from Tavis Smiley to Rush Limbaugh.

Dr. Schweikart will speak at our June 8th luncheon meeting. Visitors are always welcome at KCOT meetings!

Traditionally, KCOT meets weekly at Shalimar Country Club, for lunch on Thursdays at noon, and adjourns at 1:15 PM.  During the lunch meeting there is socialization; some Club business, including committee announcements; sharing of events in members’ lives; a 50/50 cash drawing; and an invited guest speaker.  U.S. senators, Arizona governors, college presidents and coaches, professional athletes, authors, activists, business leaders, judges and media personalities are some of the people who have given Kiwanians a 20-minute dose of education and entertainment.  This bread-breaking time allows for conversation, friendly banter, laughter, fellowship, and a sense of community togetherness.

Lunch is buffet style; it includes dessert, and your choice of beverage. The price is $14 per person.

About Kiwanis Club of Tempe (KCOT):

Since the Club’s inception, members of KCOT have worked to raise millions of dollars for children in need, and improve the community.  The dedication and compassion of KCOT members have touched countless lives.  From buying school clothes; reading books to students; providing grants and scholarships; to serving Thanksgiving meals at the Boys & Girls Club and buying Christmas presents for a family in need.  From selling Christmas trees; hosting community events; to giving seed-money for the Tempe park which is named in this Club’s honor.  The good work done by the Kiwanis Club of Tempe has made an impact in Tempe and beyond.  But, it are the Kiwanians whom have given of themselves that feel the greatest impact of altruism.

The dynamism of KCOT is a direct reflection of the Club’s members.  For over six decades, the Club has possessed giants with character, commitment and grace.  What makes KCOT special is not the illustrious awards, titles, or careers its members have, or once had, it is that a group of dedicated, compassionate people from varied and diverse backgrounds meet regularly to engage in fellowship and unite around a common purpose – to serve the children of the world and improve communities.  More information: www.kcot.org
