One Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper arrested a suspect after an attempted traffic stop turned into a short pursuit on Friday morning.
DPS troopers tried to make a traffic stop of the vehicle in Chandler near U.S. 60 and Rural Road. The driver did not pull over, so troopers began a pursuit. The car took the southbound exit at Loop 101 at Elliot Road. This is when the driver lost control and spun out. 24-year-old Brandon X. Vierra, who was later confirmed as the driver, took off from the vehicle and ran away on foot. DPS Trooper Kameron Lee was hot on his trail.
Footage from the Arizona Department of Transportation’s freeway camera captured Vierra jumping over a nearby fence during the pursuit. The trooper was able to drive over the fence and apprehend the suspect without any further incident.
According to AZDPS, Vierra has two outstanding warrants and may face charges for having drugs and drug paraphernalia in his possession when he was arrested. He has a long list of other charges, such as felony flight, criminal damage, resisting arrest and giving false information.
