Attention artists, creatives, designers and builders!
DowntownTempe Authority has a super unique and amazing opportunity to transform a city roll-off into a mobile pop-up park in the heart of vibrant Downtown Tempe and we’re looking for your help to reach potential artists!
In 2017, Downtown Tempe Authority will lead several placemaking initiatives with the goal to empower an artist(s) to transform the mobile city roll off into an inviting gathering space. While we envision the roll off being transformed into a place to grab a coffee after shopping, or a cozy place to hang out with friends, we don’t see this as it’s only potential! We’d like an artist to help define that course. This roll off is your blank canvas!
WHO: Each artist applying as an individual or part of a team must live or work in the Phoenix Metro area. Seeking artists with experience working with communities.
* Budget: Should you become one of the three finalists, you will receive a $200 stipend to come up with your final design/model. If you are the selected artist, you will have a budget of $4000 for your time and materials. You are welcome to source your own in kind donations for your project.
WHAT: The roll off is an 8′ x 20′ structure that needs an artist’s love and attention! Downtown Tempe Authority wants to empower an artist(s) to transform it into an inviting gathering space. It will be located in a parking space in front of businesses and be moved throughout the year. How would you like to engage this space? Pop up espresso bar? Cozy-chic lounge? Mobile dance floor? We’d love to see your creative visions.
WHEN: The deadline to submit is February 13th! Click the link below to check out all the details!

WHERE: This is a mobile structure that can be moved around our district so that many businesses and visitors can benefit from it. Currently it can be found in front of Handlebar Tempe at 680 S. Mill Ave. #109, Tempe, AZ 85281.
WHY: It’s simple…a great place is one that offers a variety of things to do in one spot. These things can be very simple — a place to sit, a playground to play in, a garden to enjoy, art to touch, music to hear, food to eat, history to experience, and people to meet. It is our goal to create a series of destinations that residents and visitors alike can enjoy.
We’re reaching out to you because we know you have a great network of talented creative people! Anything you can do to help spread the word about our mission is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact myself of Miranda Edwards at [email protected] with any questions.
*This is a collaboration between the City of Tempe, Downtown Tempe Authority and Foundation, local businesses and soon, an artist(s). For the complete inside scoop visit http://www.downtowntempe.com/about-us/placemaking
