National School Choice Week is from January 22 – 28, 2017 and exists to raise awareness of education options for children. Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has officially proclaimed January 22-28 as School Choice Week in Arizona and a handful of cities and counties across the state have followed suit, including: Chino Valley, Prescott Valley, Litchfield Park, Tucson, Chandler, Yuma, Gilbert, Tombstone, Mohave County, Yavapai County and Santa Cruz County. There are 970 events planned around the state to raise awareness about K-12 school choice, and 21,392 events nationwide.
The Kyrene School District plans to participate with two events: one in Tempe and one in Chandler.
The Kyrene de los Niños staff and students will celebrate National School Choice Week on Friday, January 27, 2017 with a school-wide assembly at 8:15 a.m. Students and staff will come together and share why they chose Kyrene de los Niños for their educational path. All in attendance plan to wear a bright yellow scarf, the signature of National School Choice Week. The school plans to share with the public what makes Kyrene de los Niños a great place to learn (and plans to share some great dance moves, too).
Kyrene Traditional Academy – Sureño staff and students will host a school-wide open house on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Student ambassadors plan to assist visitors in a tour of the school, providing information along the way. Teachers will be present and available to answer questions.
Held every January, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child.
The goal of National School Choice Week (NSCW) is to raise public awareness of all types of education options for children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
To meet this goal, NSCW encourages schools, organizations, and individuals to hold positive events that celebrate school choice options, while drawing attention to the need for even greater opportunities for children.
Started in 2011, NSCW has grown into the world’s largest celebration of opportunity in education. The Week is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort. We welcome all Americans to get involved and to have their voices heard!
