Barro’s Pizza is at it again for its 5th Annual Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight on Tues., Dec. 6, 2016. From open to close, all 37 Barro’s Pizza locations will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from store sales to St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance to diminish the number of Arizonans battling hunger during the holidays.

Barro’s Pizza is continuing this fundraiser to give back to the Arizona community that has given them so much love and support during the past 30-plus years. Last year, all Barro’s Pizza locations combined raised roughly $172,000 in just one day for St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance, which provided more than 1.2 million meals to the hungry in Arizona. This year, the goal is to surpass that number to feed even more families in Arizona during the holidays. Just one large pizza ordered is enough to fund 70 meals for those in need.

“Barro’s overall goal is to eventually raise $1 million in the next five years during the Annual Holiday Hunger Fight for St. Mary’s, and we are more than half way there,” said Mike Barro, co-owner of Barro’s Pizza. “We urge our customers to buy lunch or dinner for family, friends, co-workers, whomever, to help us reach this goal.”

The Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight is named after the matriarch of the Barros family, Doran, who passed away earlier this year. The issue of hunger in Arizona and around the world was very important to Doran. She took on this effort with the support of her family and friends, but most important, with the support of the Barro’s customers who participate each year. The Barro’s family chose to continue this fundraiser in her honor, which is St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance’s largest cause-marketing effort of the year.

“The Barro Family is an incredible supporter of St. Mary’s,” said Food Bank President and CEO Tom Kertis. “Their generosity during this special day to honor Doran Barro has translated into the distribution of millions of meals to the hungry of Arizona in the past four years. We invite everyone to not only enjoy their awesome food on Dec. 6, but know that every dollar they spend at Barro’s on that special day will have a far-reaching impact on those in need.”

During the past four years, Barro’s Pizza has raised more than $519,000 which has provided upwards of 3.6 million meals for Arizona families in need. Going into this fifth year of fundraising, Barro’s Pizza is hoping to make it another record-breaking year by bringing in more customers for a great cause.

About Barro’s Pizza

Barro’s Pizza is a locally and family owned pizza operation with 37 locations around the Valley. The Barro’s Pizza recipe comes from Grandma Angelina Barro who came from Italy in the 1930’s, providing a pizza unlike any other. People may disagree on whether it’s the thick crust with its light, flakey texture, which almost melts in your mouth, or the wonderful spiced sauce that is both tangy and sweet, that is the secret of this great tasting pizza. Barro’s Pizza also provides wings, salads, sandwiches, pastas, gluten-free pizza options, dessert, beer and wine. For more information, visit www.barrospizza.com.
